Skid Row Housing Trust Unveils its 22nd Residential Building for LA's Homeless with a 20th Anniversary Celebration



The Skid Row Housing Trust is hosting a 20th Anniversary Gala Celebration and Open House at the New Carver Apartments on September 24, 2009. The opening marks the Trust's 22nd building to provide supportive housing for Los Angeles' homeless community. Young Hollywood Celebrities including Tobey McGuire, Jen McGuire, Ashley Olsen, Justin Bartha, Scott Speedman, Alison Hannigan, Justin Timberlake as well as top interior designers, artists and society figures slated to attend.


Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) September 23, 2009 -- The Skid Row Housing Trust is hosting a 20th Anniversary Gala Celebration and Open House at the New Carver Apartments. This building is the Trust's 22nd building to provide supportive housing for Los Angeles' homeless community.


What: The gala opening benefit will feature a tour led by architect Michael Maltzan of his newest masterpiece, following the ribbon cutting ceremony. Maltzan's buildings are environmently-friendly and community-minded.


Four showcase apartments designed by LA's top celebrity designers will be featured on the tour. Inspiration for the designs came directly from the Trust residents. A silent auction of original art works and live music will also be presented.


Who: The yellow carpet will be rolled out for Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Meyer, Ashley Olsen, Justin Timberlake, Justin Bartha, Scott Speedman, Alison Hannigan and other young Hollywood stars (tba), Los Angeles' elite, business leaders, members of the interior design community and architect, Michael Maltzan will also be in attendance.


Four of the apartments feature resident inspired designs by celebrated Los Angeles designers, Katie Fine, Molly Luetkemeyer, Ruthie Sommer and Estee Stanley.


The celebration includes a performance from The Watson Twins, a well-known LA-based musical group, with country and folk influences, who will perform their songs, Just Like Heaven and How Am I to Be.


A silent auction will feature a wide range of art from Los Angeles area artisans, including: Allison Schulnik, Anthony Maglalang, Can Sucuoglu, Gabor Ekecs, Jennifer Meyer, Jon Tarry, Joshua Sprinkling, Juan Rosillo, Juliane Backmann, Kevin Welby, Kymm Swank, Mary Anne Campagna, Pierce Brosnan, Ray Macias, Samuel Primero and Suzette Van Bylevelt. Plus, Nalda Begeta, the creative force behind internationally known Kao Pao Shu, has created some one-of-a-kind handbags for the silent auction. Her fashions have been called works of art because of her attention to detail and unique concepts.


This event is sponsored by Bank of America, Enterprise and Angeleno Magazine among others.


When: The Gala Opening is Thursday, September 24th. Yellow carpet arrivals, interior design showcase and art silent auction are at 6:00pm, 20th Anniversary celebration begins at 7:30pm, event ends at 9:30pm.


The New Carver Apartments, 325 West 17th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90015 (on 17th and Hope Streets in downtown Los Angeles).


Why: Skid Row Housing Trust has been ending homelessness for the most vulnerable men and women in Los Angeles for the past 20 years. The Trust develops, manages and operates homes for the homeless, offers permanent supportive housing, and a complete range of support services necessary to move beyond poverty, illness and addiction.


The Trust is responsible for 22 buildings and over 1,300 residents who live in them. Skid Row Housing Trust was founded in 1989 and is a nonprofit organization.
