The Ghost Writer, which is directed by Roman Polanski, has joined the Oscar race in spectacular fashion after landing a string of top nominations for the upcoming European Film Awards.

Members of the European Film Academy have singled out the movie for potential Best Film and Best Director (Polanski) honors, while star Ewan McGregor is up for a Best Actor prize.

In the Best Film category, the movie, which also features Pierce Brosnan, will compete with Turkish film Honey, France's Gods & Monsters, Lebanon, Soul Kitchen and Oscar-winning Best Foreign Language Film The Secret in their Eyes.

  1. Mr. Brosnan, I tell this news: just died at his home in Madrid, Luis García Berlanga. He was one of the Spanish film directors most militant at the time of Franco. His films are the most important: Welcome Mr. marshall, The executioner(El verdugo), Plácido, The National Shotgun (La escopeta Nacional), etc. He worked whith Bardem (Javier's uncle). Regards. Rosa
